Hugo Matzenauer –graphic artist, painter, muralist– was born in the town of Mohacs, Hungary on November 8, 1923. In 1946 he began studying in Budapest at Hungary’s prestigious Academy of Fine Arts where he graduated in 1951. His teachers were Istvan Szonyi (1896-1960), Endre Domanovszky (1907-1974) and Jeno Barcsay (1900-1988). In 1956 he received a Rockefeller Fellowship grant whereupon he and his wife (also a recipient) moved to Vienna, Austria, for further studies at the “Akademie Der Bildenden Kunste”.

    In 1960 he moved his family to Florida where he was very well received. Since that time his work has been in demand throughout the United States and the world.
